2020 Election, 100 Days and CountingAMP

Last updated on July 25, 2020

With the 2020 Elections looming ever so close, we find ourselves in chaotic times. Times requiring we take stock of our elected officials and how they have served us this year and prior. We have an ongoing crisis in the COVID-19 virus and its continued spread. We have demonstrations and protests turning into violent riots involving looting, arson, and deaths. We have mandates to wear masks and return to lockdown. We have out of control spending, bringing the National Debt to over 26.5 trillion dollars. We have those who urge us to spend more and not worry about where we will get the money. We have elected officials siding with rioters. We have calls to defund the police. We have elected officials who haven't a clue what is best for their constituents, let alone what their constituents want.

Is there anything we the people can do to set things right? Yes, of course. If this were not an election year, I would say that if you are unsatisfied with your local official's reaction to the chaos, get your name on a recall petition. Find a way to ensure your voice is heard; email is a start. Phone calls, texts, tweets to their official twitter account, whatever it takes to get your view out there. Short of rioting, of course. However, this is an election year, and there is a much more effective way to make your view count. Got Out To Vote!

Many states still have primary elections to determine local candidates. Be sure and vote in your state's primary. If there is a candidate you don't agree with, vote for someone whose view is more aligned with your own. Just don't vote to put the same person back in office because they are the party favorite when you do not agree with their view.

The National General Election is 100 days away. We have an opportunity to change the behavior of Congressmen and Senators. In particular, we have an opportunity to rid Congress and the Senate of those who have wielded power for so long and been so ineffectual. If we are unwilling to make the hard decision at the voting booth, then perhaps we deserve the consequences.

I have long held the belief voting is one of the most important rights we are afforded under the Constitution.  Yet every election I see only a small percentage of those with this right actually voting.  This is the right and the mechanism our founding fathers gave us to protect all of our other rights.  It is imperative we exercise this right.  It is for this reason I began this website.
